Meet The Teachers

Regina Chaeli E-RYT: Regina is the Director of the 200 hr Yoga Teacher Training Program. She is a registered nurse, holistic practitioner, yoga and meditation instructor and spiritual counselor. Regina has studied with many great teachers over the past 30 years including Joan Shivarpita Harrigan, Swami Chandrasekharanand Saraswati and Richard Miller. Her education in yoga consists of traditional methods of meditation, philosophy, trauma sensitive yoga, yoga therapy, Yin Yoga, Iyengar Yoga and postures, incorporated with current science and research. Regina’s love for yoga has propelled her into opening the Yoga Darshana Center and establishing East Neck Yoga & Wellness. She is the grounding force of YDC and her gift is to understand life situations clearly and create a clear path for solutions.

Matthew Pecorella E-RYT: Matthew is the President of Yoga Darshana Center, a not-for-profit organization founded in 2001. He has been practicing and teaching yoga and meditation for over 16 years with special training in restorative yoga with aromatherapy and yoga nidra meditation. Matthew is an essential oil educator, silver leader with Young Living Essential Oils, reiki healer, ordained minister and raindrop technique practitioner. He is also a consultee of Patanjali Kundalini Yoga Care with Joan Shivarpita Harrigan and Swami Chandrasekharanand Saraswati. Matthew has a way of  bringing people together and making things happen. He has a gentle, loving technique that guides the student into the pureness of the heart.

Evan Eskew RYT: Evan is a certified yoga instructor, reiki practitioner, professional musician and kirtan artist. He was introduced to the path of Yoga in 2012. After attending a few classes he realized and felt the positive effects of practicing yoga asana's, not just on the physical body but also on the mental and spiritual aspects of his being. Evan's intention for becoming an instructor was to help people heal, and discover the valuable tools offered through the science of Yoga. Evan's classes are full of positive energy, and inspiration. He incorporates Iyengar based Hatha Yoga, breathing practices, Yogic philosophy, live music, and meditation to create a dynamic and uplifting experience.

Rosemary Hudson E-RYT: Rosemary began studying yoga at 16 years old. As the middle child of seven, she found peace and focus as well as a low impact way to be fit. She began her yoga teaching career at 19, took a hiatus after a few years and returned to being a leader of the practice 10 years ago. Rosemary is known for her positive, happy outlook and zest for life. She enjoys bringing the healing practice and peace of yoga to people of all ages.

Rosie Hudson RYT: Rosie is a certified yoga instructor who began yoga on a whim and soon realized the many benefits. She deepened her asana practice while traveling abroad and began incorporating it into her spiritual practice. Rosie brings a thoughtful, meditative and playful quality to her yoga classes. She has always enjoyed leading and teaching and looks forward to sharing yoga with everyone!

Dan Elfawal, MS, RYT: Dan is a special education consultant who specializes in behavioral therapy. His passion  for yoga, children, and connecting with others has brought  him to practice and get certified at the Yoga Darshana  Center. Dan is filled with life and known for his energetic, loving nature. He always meets the students where they are. When you meet Dan you will feel like you have known him forever.

Heather Kash RYT: Heather is a Registered Yoga Teacher. She completed her Yoga Long Island teacher training here at the Yoga  Darshana Center. Heather teaches a class that is inspired by  the power of breath, softening/opening of the heart, and  trusting in one’s own strength, while being compassionate, intentional and present. She has an abundance of gratitude for yoga, as it has empowered her to explore within her own practice “on” and “off” the mat. Sharing the gift of yoga as a teacher brings great joy into Heather's life.

Sandra Rovira RYT: After a practicing yoga for over 15 years, a career as an attorney, and the owner/director of a day spa, Sandra decided that she wanted to do what her mind, body and spirit called her to do, and that is to teach yoga. A life-changing decision, Sandra completed her 200 hour teacher training program at Darshana Yoga Center. Sandra’s goal is to help students understand and work with their body alignment and form through the never ending adventure of yoga and is thankful to Darshana Yoga for the opportunity to live her passion.

Barbara Furlani RYT: Knee injuries and shoulder dis-ease brought Barbara to yoga, which healed her and delivered her from eminent surgery. This transformed her career out of the western medical establishment into life as a yoga  instructor. Since certification, Barbara has also studied Ashtanga with Lino Miele in Rome, Iyengar alignment and anatomy with Rodney Yee, and the Anusara heart-centered approach with John Friend. Moving through cancer survival in 1982 to thriving well-being, Barbara has experienced the potiental we all have to evolve beyond fear into healing and love, and uses this teaching of empowerment as the foundation of her personal style.

Lisa Sabino RYT: Lisa graduated from Yoga Darshana Center's Teaching Training Program in June. As an elementary school teacher for 16 years, she has a passion for teaching others to reach their highest potential, at any age! From the minute she walked into her first yoga class in 2011, she remembers a fire being lit that she says will never go out! Lisa is especially drawn to yoga for its healing benefits on the mind and body. The wisdom, mindfulness and self-awareness that we practice regularly on our mats really begins to transfer into our daily lives. That is what she loves the most about yoga and looks forward to sharing with you.

Virginia Helmecke RYT: Virginia graduated from the 200-hour  Long Island Yoga Teacher Training program at Yoga Darshana Center. She has realized the great healing power of yoga and wishes to share this gift with others. Virginia's mission is to also help her students cultivate strength and peace from within and to obtain optimal health in body, mind and spirit. She has a warm and loving approach that makes you feel welcomed and at ease.

 Nina Triolo RYT: Nina discovered yoga during a trip to  Sedona, Arizona 16 years ago. As a software developer, it  became a way of switching off the analytical part of her mind  and de-stressing from the demands of her profession. It has  kept her grounded when life spiraled out of control and brought her back to health after a debilitating and life changing illness. It was the healing power of her practice that inspired her to become a teacher and share her love of yoga with others. Nina chose to study with Darshana because of their 'Yoga for Everyone' philosophy and welcomes students of all levels

Jeanette Wetherell: Jeanette graduated from the Yoga Teacher Training program at Yoga Darshana Center. Her interest in yoga began as a young child as she practiced meditation with her mom. Her physical practice began in hopes of releasing physical pain and emotional stress. She has developed a passion for yoga as it has helped her establish a healthy mind-body connection. Yoga has made so many positive changes to her life which is why she has the desire to bring the physical and spiritual practice to her students. Jeanette enjoys teaching yoga to beginners because of her strong belief that yoga is for everyone. She is intent on making sure each student in class feels relaxed and strong in their body/mind.

 Heathers Casale RYT: Heather received her Long Island yoga teacher certification from Yoga Darshana Center. This was the natural progression of her sincere love of yoga. Heather sought out yoga as a means to deal with stress and to exercise. She found these benefits, and so many more. Yoga has become her life’s passion and she finds delight in introducing others to the life changing effects it has to offer people from every walk of life. Heather has been trained in the Iyengar method under the guidance of Elaine Fruchtman and Jeff Logan. She has a very calm, grounded, friendly approach to teaching with clear & precise instruction.

Dolores Burns MA, RYT::: Dolores began her study and  practice of Classical Yoga under the guidance of Gurani Anjali,  Founder of Yoga Anand Ashram. Gurani Anjali pronounced her  a teacher after 11 years. Dolores’ quest for the truth has brought her to Patanjali Kundalini Yoga Care where she takes instruction from Swami Chandrasekharanand Saraswati (a Vedic Vedanta monk in the Saraswati Order) and Joan Shivarpita Harrigan. Dolores has taught many yoga classes on Long Island and at several locations such as Yoga Anand Ashram, Yoga Darshana Center, local libraries and adult education classes. In 2006, Dolores became a Registered Yoga Instructor with Yoga Alliance.

Debra Jensen: Deb is a Physical Therapist Assistant, ERYT500 and CIAYT (Certified International Association of Yoga Therapists). She trained with IYT at the 200, 500 and 1000 hour yoga therapist certifications. Debra has been teaching Yoga for Breast Cancer Survivors, Chair Yoga and Level I yoga, specialized workshops for back pain, stress management since 2003. She has worked as a Physical Therapist Assistant in both outpatient and acute care settings and is the Program Coordinator for the Functional Fitness program for Seniors at Southampton Hospital since 1997. Debra also teaches a faculty with Kripalu Center's Integrative Yoga Therapy program in Massachusetts. She brings a love and enthusiasm for yoga to her hospital work and teaching positions.

Jeff Logan: Jeff is the co-owner of Body & Soul in Huntington. He is currently on the Board of  the Iyengar Yoga Assoc. of NY & an Officer of the Long  Island Yoga Assoc. where he writes the Asana Column for its  quarterly newsletter. He is certified in the Iyengar tradition and he is frequently involved with yoga in the media. Jeff is known for his in-depth, yet light- hearted approach to teaching asana. When you meet him, you will see why everyone loves Jeff.

Donna Brook RN MA RYT: Donna Brook is a nurse practitioner, certified ayurvedic practitioner, clinical aromatherapy practitioner, Angel Therapy practitioner, Reiki Master, and holds Therapeutic Lifestyle certification. Donna is trained and certified in Ayurveda through the International Vedic Institute. She has studied energy medicine with Alberto Villoldo at The Four Winds Society. She blends the best of eastern and western practices to facilitate healing of body, mind, and spirit. Donna Holds a Master's degree in nursing and currently works in hospice and palliative care. She is an adjunct faculty member at The College of New Rochelle, and an active member of the American Holistic Nurses Association.

Vicky Seff RCYT: Vicky has been studying and practicing yoga for over 10 years. She is a former board member of the Long Island Yoga Association. Vicky took her yoga teacher training at the Yoga Darshana Center, and her training in children's yoga from Yoga Ed. She is currently training to become a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher and is in school to become a physical therapist assistant. Vicky teaches the Children's yoga section in this program.
